Emmet/Volo, known mostly as TrainwreckShipping and/or ウォロクダ (Worokuda), is a popular ship in the Pokémon fandom. It pairs Emmet (Kudari) and Volo (Volo), one of the twin brothers who run the Battle Subway in Pokémon Black and White and the Pokémon wielder guild merchant from Pokémon Legends: Arceus respectively.

Canon Background

The two do not meet in canon, with Volo living several hundred years before Emmet. Volo does however meet Ingo, Emmet's twin brother, who was forcefully placed back in time and in the region of Hisui by Giratina, (similar to that of the player character.)

Popular Tropes & Fanon

  • Immortal Volo: Volo being immortal is often how the two meet, with Volo seeing Emmet and remembering Ingo, fascinated as to how that could've happened and if Giratina was involved.
  • Fix-It: bringing Ingo back to his correct time period as an emotional fix-it.
  • Historical AU: some works may have the two characters live not in Hisui or in modern-day New York, but elsewhere in time.

-Shipping Name Origin

"TrainwreckShipping" was not initially coined as the ship name for Emmet/Volo on the Neverending Romance ship name list, which is considered the masterlist of all "official" ship names in the fandom. It was first coined by Transfinite sometime in July of 2004 as the name for Norman/May, dubbed 'Trainwreck' since it's a father/daughter incest pairing.[1] The ship has a small amount of fan activity, though few fanworks, with most uses of the name being out of disgust.[2] As of the 2020s, it is a very rare pairing.

In 2022, the name was re-coined by Emmet/Volo shippers, being a play on the ship being a 'Trainwreck' or otherwise disastrous, as it would spark Volo's fascination with Arceus and Giratina that Emmet exists in the present day while Ingo died in the past. Later in the year, it would be added to Neverending Romance as their official ship name, with it staying official for Norman/May as well.[2]
