Distractions is a Kirk/Spock story by Natasha Solten.
It was published in the print zine The Sound of Rain.
Summary
"When he and Spock are almost captured by Klingons, Kirk is upset when Spock refuses to leave him behind."
Reactions and Reviews
It opens with Kirk and Spock being pursued by a group of Klingons. Kirk falls and cannot continue on. He orders Spock to keep running and Spock disobeys in order to remain at Kirk's side. Kirk is fuming that Spock has disobeyed a direct order, but Spock ignores him and they both sit in the street awaiting their fate as the Klingons round the corner. Of course, in the nick of time, the two are beamed up. The remainder and major focus of the story involves several confrontations between Kirk and Spock involving the subject of Spock's disregard of direct orders. Deeper meanings behind his insubordination surface and the story culminates in beautifully, poetic love scenes. [1]
Wow, what a great story. Maybe I'll have to add this one to my list of favorite Natasha Solten stones: its really quite a long one.Distractions opens with Kirk and Spock running from the Klingons. Kirk is injured and falls, and orders Spock to continue without him. Spock ignores the order and turns back for his captain. The Klingons come upon the two virtually helpless men and are about to take them prisoner when Scotty beams the two officers back to the ship.
Later, we discover that Kkk is very angry that Spock did not obey his order. He understands the emotions behind the refusal, but he can't allow such insubordination to continue. But Spock comes up with some logical reason for his behavior, that he would have been forced to kill Kirk before he was subjected to the mind sifter. But he is also honest with both himself and he captain, and acknowledges the almost-true reasons for his behavior "I could not leave your side I simply could not." Spock answered."
This conversation leads Kirk to a solitary, late night contemplation. Would he ever have the spiritual strength to kill Spock if it were needed? "How would he do it? With a weapon? With his bare hands?" Heady, horrible thoughts for a man who loves his friend. He doesn't think he could do it. It can't be thought of.
And of course, all of this finally leads to that ultimate confrontation in Kirk's quarters, when the two realty confront the love that fuels their behavior.
There are some wonderful exchanges in this story, filled with fantastic insight into the inner lives of our favorite guys.

And then, to make this story even better, there is some wonderful sex, sizzling and loving a! the same time. The author even manages to have Spock penetrate Kirk their first time and make me love it, a near impossible feat!... Highly recommended! [2]
