Danny Phantom × DC, commonly known as DP×DC, is a crossover fandom between Danny Phantom and DC Comics, specifically Batfamily.

There was a first wave during the time the Danny Phantom series aired (2004 - 2007), mostly crossover with Teen Titans and Young Justice series.

A second wave started around 2021, coinciding with a renaissance era of the Danny Phantom fandom, and shortly after the Maribat crossover and White Collar passed their peak.

Overview

Background

From what I understand as someone only barely into it, Batman/DP crossovers became popular first, stemming mostly from jokes about how Danny would fit in well with the Batfam as a black haired/blue eyed underage vigilante (the same joke that led to a bunch of Batman/Shazam crossovers after that movie came out). Then from there the trend expanded to DC crossovers in general. Constantine is a favorite entry point for those because he deals with magic and ghosts.

White Collar and Miraculous Ladybug have very similar Batman/DC crossover trends happening that blew up a little earlier iirc so I'm guessing there's a lot of overlap/inspiration there for the DC/DP folks. And yes pretty sure it's mostly tumblr-based.[1]

The first few DC x DP fics published on AO3 were scattered across several years starting 2013 and were mostly one shots or part of larger crossover collections.[2] A slight uptick in fics appears to have begun in 2018 and the fandom steadily grew from there until 2022. The vast majority of DC x DP fics on AO3 are dated as being posted during or after 2022 as the fandom expanded very quickly.[3]

Fanon and tropes

  • Adoption Fic
  • Danny Fenton and Damian Wayne are twins, in some of these AUs Danny's name is revealed to actually be Danyal al Ghul.
  • Floating Red Duck Candle - a red, duck shaped candle from the fic If You Give A Bat a Burger that has become "a symbol of hope and finding the good words for writing." There is an AO3 collection of fics that reference this icon.
  • Ghost King Danny Fenton, also a common trope in the Danny Phantom fandom proper, these AUs see Danny becoming king after his defeat of the previous ruler.
  • Jason Todd is a "halfa" or otherwise has ghostly/'liminal' abilities as a result of his death and resurrection. Other members of the batfamily are also sometimes included but Jason is by far the most common.
  • The Lazarus Pits are corrupted ectoplasm.
  • Little Baby Man - a Danny Phantom AU created by tourettesdog on tumblr, this creature has found it's way into DPxDC lore.
  • Physical De-aging is fairly common and is often a ghostly trauma response or the result of unethical experimentation.
  • Psychologist/Psychology Student Jazz Fenton, it is not uncommon for her to be studying Psychology or a similar degree. As an adult she is sometimes portrayed working at Arkham Asylum or elsewhere in that field.
  • Runaway AUs are a common setup for crossovers, with Danny and/or other characters running away to Gotham for safety
  • Summoning Circles make somewhat frequent appearances with cult members or heroes attempting to summon a ghost or the ghost king and Danny coming through.
