We'll probably get together at the Baker's Square after the parade, and after that... who knows? This should be one tremendous good time, and an opportunity to make new friends in other clubs with which you might not be familiar. • Paul Ortiz offers up a lesson:

Last month I was confronted with a which I was made aware of a certain behavior I possessed. Therefore, a lesson was once again served coldly on a plate in front of me. The lesson was one I had thought that I had learned yens ago, but alas I obviously needed a refresher course on. The lesson was respect and courtesy, specifically respect and courtesy to others.

I have served this fleet for seven years, for three of those 1 have had to report to an immediate superior. In the last four 1 have had no real immediate superior to answer to.

I got used to having my CO. fairly distant from me and then I came to the ATREIDES. What a change of pace this was for me, let's start with the fact that I am good friends with my CO., then move on to the fact he is less than twenty minutes away. I was now faced with a new situation, not only a CO. in close proximity but someone I see on a regular basis.

At first I, as you may or may not have seen, reacted adversely. I treated the CO. as a fellow person not a superior, and when he would ask things of me I would fail to follow through on them, and orders were treated as requests. Many of you at this point are saying, so what's the big deal? This is just a fan club.

The big deal is the fact that Unicorn got were he was because of hard work and dedication. Here I come and just blow all that off like his achievements weren't as good as mine, but yet I expected everyone to follow my instructions. We must all understand that, while yes, this is a club, the people in charge were put there for a reason. Because they were the best qualified for the position. Because they were the best qualified, they deserve our respect for their hard work and achievement.

This not only applies here, but in out daily life, we must respect each other and show the proper courtesy, as this will also reflect on you. When we are out at a con with other ship's and the Captain addresses you, the proper response should be, "Yes, Captain Escobedo" (Capt. here.... Actually I prefer All Great and Mighty One, Who With A Look Can Make Even A "Q" Nervous, but Unicorn will do in a pinch). This not only makes him look good, it makes the ship look good. People look and say, "Wow, they really respect their Captain and ship." This then translates into a better image of the ATREIDES, and to the rest of STARFLEET, because we respect each other and are courteous.

Trekkie conventions and the Internet, however, are another story. 'There are so many people who feel I should go to the conventions because that's a part of the job—and I do want to honor the fans,' she says in the latest TV Guide. But Mulgrew says the experiences are too exhausting. 'It's just not worth it. Because something is going to suffer in my work.' Mulgrew... hates how her fans learn Star Trek secrets—such as upcoming plot twists—through the Internet. 'I think the Internet is terrifying. I hate the whole idea. What does it mean but just a total loss of privacy? [The fans] know everything.'"
