Category Logic

I think there's a problem with the logic of this category. Category:Science Fiction Fandom is a category about the science fiction fandom at large, not about fandoms for individual sf canons. Like Category:Science Fiction Fandom, Category:Horror Fandom is under Fandoms by Community; therefore, this category should be for pages about horror fandom in general and should not include fandom subcategories or fandom overview pages for individual canons that happen to be in the horror genre. In general we have not classified fandom pages by the genre of the canon. We have created format categories, and if we really needed to, we could create a Category:Horror Canons to list out individual canon titles that have their own fandoms.--aethel (talk) 15:20, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

ETA: Oh, and we have separate categories for Anime and Anime & Manga Fandom; one lists all the anime titles we documented the fandoms for, and the other lists pages about anime fandom practice in general.--aethel (talk) 15:37, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

P.P.S. and List of Horror Fandoms already exists.--aethel (talk) 16:53, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

Fair enough. I wasn't sure what method to pick, given how Fantasy Fandoms also has some fandom pages in it. Pinky G Rocket (talk) 21:42, 18 April 2022 (UTC)
I was unaware of the Fantasy Fandom miscategorization, thanks! :) I have fixed those and can fix these. The reasoning to follow is that Fanlore is fandom-centric rather than canon-centric, so the genre of the canon doesn't usually matter. For example, Supernatural is a TV show in the horror genre, but what's documented on Fanlore is the fan community that creates fanworks for it and ships various characters together; they are mostly not horror fans, but media fans. The horror fandom category should document what fans who are horror fans are doing to express their horror-fannishness, regardless of what shows they watch.--aethel (talk) 06:15, 29 May 2022 (UTC)
I removed all the individual media properties/canons from the Horror Fandom category and added them to the List of Horror Fandoms page instead. I was poking around for more documentation and discussion on these types of categories, and I think there was just a slow evolution/realization that certain categories became useless if you filled them up with individual fandom pages. See Category talk:Anime & Manga Fandom. I believe the Horror Fandom, Comics Fandom, and Fantasy Fandom categories were intended to follow the same rule as the Media Fandom and Science Fiction Fandom categories of no individual fandom pages/categories, but this was never properly documented.--aethel (talk) 01:06, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
