Hal/Barry is a slash pairing of Hal Jordan and Barry Allen in the DC Comics fandom.

Canon

Hal and Barry have been crime-fighting partners and best friends in canon since 1962. The 1999-2000 six-issue limited series Flash and Green Lantern: The Brave and the Bold by Mark Waid, Tom Peyer, Barry Kitson, and Tom Grindberg focused on the close bond of friendship between these two characters over time. The mini-series is nostalgic, evoking the Silver Age of DC Comics, and focuses on character development and interaction while not shying away from heavier topics such as jealousy, generational and ideological conflicts, and grief.

Versions of Hal and Barry--called Ray (Red Racer) and Hank Hallmark (Flashlight)--are canonically in a relationship on Earth 36. Ray was killed in Superman #16 (2017) in what can be viewed as an example of the Bury Your Gays trope.

Fandom

The pairing, previously a rarepair for decades, started attracting attention around 2013, presumably due to Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox and the very shippy Flash Annual #2. The release of the Justice League: War animated movie in 2014 brought in even more fans.

There was also a small surge of interest in the pairing that was linked to the growing popularity of Barry Allen due to the 2014 CW television series, The Flash.

Although Hal Jordan (Green Lantern) has not appeared in the series, small references to the character have been made on screen, fueling speculation about what an Arrowverse Hal Jordan might be like.

Some of this has been reflected in fan fiction writing this scenario as Hal/Barry.
