Before Terry McGurrin, an executive producer for the Total Drama series who frequently interacts with fans, confirmed she was latina^[1], some theorized she could be Arab. Autistic!Axel is also somewhat common, since the idea of a zombie apocalypse interests her so much.

When her design was first revealed, some fans joked she looked like a Courtney/Duncan lovechild.

Before the season came out, many saw potential in Axel due to a design that made her imposing and very skilled and she was considered a favorite to win, ironically, she was the second boot only after Caleb.

Before Axel/Ripper became a thing in Total Drama Island (2024), many fans alleged that she was a lesbian and was generally shipped with Nichelle due to a brief interaction in Total Drama Island (2023) finale.

In Total Roblox Drama, she is called Alex. Fans may call her this outside of the Roblox fangame.
