Art to the Rescue (art2therescue) was a LiveJournal-based charity auction of Harry Potter fanart organized to raise funds for disaster relief efforts after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

The auction raised $4,674 for Global Giving's Tsunami Relief: Safe Drinking Water in Sri Lanka.

The project was spearheaded by adamasoda. A separate community, pr0n2therescue, was created for auctioning adult art, moderated by Glockgal and Lunulet.[1]

About

The death toll in Asia has risen over a staggering 150,000 in what is known as the biggest natural disaster in recent history. I'm sure you all know the details and are as horrified as we all are. So, we at art2therescue put our heads together and came up with this...

This community is for the purpose of hosting a series of art auctions. All profits will go directly to UNICEF to provide relief for the victims of the Indian Ocean tsunamis. All auctions will be organized by characters and/or pairings. We've seen the results of fandom pulling together, and given the quality of art showcased, we believe we can raise a large amount of aid in a relatively short time. [...]

Every auction will begin on Wednesday, 5pm EST (11pm GMT), and end on Sunday at the same time. We will be holding approximately 2 auctions each week. Each auction will showcase no more than 15 pieces of art. All artwork must be original (no prints)--however for those artists who work mainly in CG, you may auction off your original linework and include a color print of the finished piece as a courtesy.[2]
