The Anakin & Padmé Meme (alternatively known as "For the Better, Right?") is a four-panel meme format originally based on stills of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala from the Star Wars film Attack of the Clones
Origin and spread
The original meme consists of four panels featuring captioned screencaps from the Star Wars prequel film Attack of the Clones. In the first panel, Anakin declares, "I'm going to change the world," prompting Padmé to ask in the second panel, "For the better, right?" The third panel features Anakin smiling cryptically without caption while the fourth has Padmé repeat her question with a worried expression.
This dialogue is original to the meme but resembles an exchange in the scene from which the screencaps are taken. In this scene, Padmé tells Anakin that his ideas for governance "[sound] an awful lot like a dictatorship," to which he smirkingly quips, "Well, if it works."[1]
Early versions retained the Star Wars stills while replacing the captions with other text emphasizing Padmé's supposed naiveté. Variants of the meme have since emerged featuring screencaps or redraws of characters from other fandoms.
