Tagging Along is a gen and slash Starsky & Hutch fanzine. Tagging Along is the title on the cover.

It has two subtitle pages inside: "Chronicles of a Chelonian" and "Adventures of a Chelonian". Other subtitles include: Adventures of a Chelonian in Collaboration with a Cayman.

This zine is completely handmade and hard to find.

The table of contents lists no authors, but a comparison of each story to stories in other zines show that Tabby Davis and S. Soliste are two of the authors. This zine has 160 pages. The interior illos consist of some xeroxed photos, some small line drawings, and art by Ruth Kurz.

At least one story, "The Legend of the Red Shirt," as printed in zines is slightly different than what was posted online. This may also be the case of other stories in this zine.

Its Origins

'Tagging Along' goes back to 1982 when I was invited to Zebracon as Guest of Honour. Not wishing to arrive empty-handed, I put together a collection of SH stories based on the tag scenes — 160 pages with approximately 40 items by various authors, plus illos. With a full-time career job, it all had to be done fast over less than a couple of months, and the 'zine' could not be prepared with the exact, detailed care which one would expect to give to an *official* fanzine. 'Tagging' was very much an informal offering. I took three copies to ZCON, and then, in U.S.A., xeroxed enough additional ones for fans who wanted them. It was never advertised but was freely around at ZCON and has been since; there are quite a lot of copies in existence. [1]

Reptiles

cartoon from a 1980 letterzine (S and H), artist is "Anonymous." It may be a reference to "Tagging Along's" subtitles.

The subtitles relating to turtles and alligator-like reptiles may have roots in some in-jokes that circulated in some early issues (1980) of S and H. "Hutch sleeps like an alligator" is one such reference as were the alligators on the convention committee's badges at DobeyCon.

No Two Alike

Lucy Cribb and Elaine Hauptman describe in Tabby's artistic approach to her zines:

Tabby was a purist... S&H was her only fandom, and she produced many beautiful zines throughout the years. Her zines were truly works of art, and no two were exactly alike. She would glue different cut-outs or pieces of art to the covers or inside pages, or use colored pencils to color various things, making each copy unique. It was against her principles for them all to look the same. [2]
