A Place Inside is a Battlestar Galactica (2003) fanvid by dragonchic. It was reviewed by luridmuse on March 31, 2007 at the reel.

Vidder's Summary: Starbuck character study with a heavy emphasis on season three.

Vidder's Notes: "I'd be lying if I called this vid a tribute to Kara. In a lot of ways it highlights exactly what I didn't like about her season three portrayal. But that's part of who she is now and I felt the downward spiral that led up to "Maelstrom" was worth exploring.

Did my best to follow canon when it comes to my interpretation of the three central relationships in the vid, namely Kara's ties to Sam, Lee, and Leoben. Wouldn't really call this a shipper vid though. There's some speculation about Kara's fate that in future episodes may be revealed as decidedly not canon, in which case I can re-label this vid as wrong AU."

Reactions/Reviews

  • "This video moves at the speed of light. Its Quick, very quick, which adds to the overall dramatic feel of the video. Dragonchic is a mistress of quick transitions with this piece, managing to keep pace with the music though making the video all the more powerful...This video drives hard, and fast, from start to finish. Dragonchic really shows a powerful talent for fast-cutting and displays it proudly with this piece. Though normally not a placebo fan, this video will forever been safety tucked into my video folder as one hell of a video. " ~ feedback at the reel review.
  • "While I've never seen BSG, I've seen a lot of BSG vids. This one feels completely different. It's so gigantic and energetic it just leaves you breathless, and all the way through just packed with parallels and continued motion and all sorts of brilliance. I don't know the characters, but I can tell what you've done to make your statement about them here. I think this is the best I've ever seen from you in terms of parallels and poignancy. (The shot from the picture of her as a girl to the drawing at 1:15 is just terrific stuff.) Also, wonderfully transparent use of lyric ties. Extremely impressive. Visually, the vid works in so many ways. My favorite moments are probably the internal motion and facial expressions to the guitar hits, like the ball catch at 1:01, the squint at 1:25, the punch at 2:02, the gasp at 2:28 (and the explosion just after), the fireworks... I'm a total sucker for stuff like that. Also, beautiful use of source focus shifts and effects to express the music - which itself was a great choice. You completely owned this song. The visuals just fly at you (heh) at breakneck speed and never let up. And yet you never lose touch with the narrative." ~ feedback at the vid announcement.
