Zorro as a character first appeared in pulps written by Johnston McCulley in 1919. As a character, he's very similar to Robin Hood. Since then he appeared in novels, comics, cartoons, movies, television series and video games. He has also inspired numerous references, parodies, and thematically similar works such as Queen of Swords.
