Yami Marik, also known as Yami Malik or Dark Marik in the Japanese version, is an antagonist of the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series.

Fandom

Even though they share a naming convention, Yami Marik's origin is very different than Yami Yugi's and Yami Bakura's in canon, being an alternate personality of Marik Ishtar created by his trauma and the Millenium Rod instead of the spirit of an ancient Egyptian person; despite that, very often in fanfics he will be treated in a similar way as the spirits. Sometimes this is because the writer was confused or unaware of Yami Marik's actual backstory, other times they simply wanted to treat all the "Yami" characters in the same way.

Fanon Names

Similarly to Yami Bakura, he will often receive fan nicknames to help differentiate him from Marik: some of the more popular include Melvin, a nickname given to him in Yu-Gi-Oh: The Abridged Series; Kek, who was created by "Miss Macabre Grey" in 2012 for the fanfic Problem Position and ended up spreading around, being used a lot on fanfics; and Amir, created for the now-deleted Tumblr askblog @Ask-ryou-the-medium by "VanillaKokain".
