Writing More Women into the Narrative is a trope in Hamilton fandom. It refers to the practice of taking actual historical women (usually with ties to at least one canon character) who were around during the time of Hamilton canon, and imagining what their characters would be like if they were in the musical or part of a Hamilton expanded universe.

Scope

This trope includes any fanwork which imagines a Hamilton-universe characterization/appearance of a woman from that era of history, and any fanwork in Hamilton fandom which includes her as a character.

Common Characters

In Modern AUs, this trope often involves learning the woman's surname from before marriage; for example:

  • Theodosia Bartow (Prevost Burr)
  • Dolley Payne (Todd Madison)
  • Adrienne de Noailles (Marquise de Lafayette)
