Wolf's Head is a Red Dead Redemption zine put together mostly on twitter by @ghostsjogging, @injuuns, and @melpaisleyart. It began taking applications for art, poetry, writing, and "other" in December, 2018.[1]

When asked what it was about, @ghostsjogging replied:

Anything you’d like! You can draw or write about your favorite characters. Aiming to keep shipping to a minimum in hopes of creating a larger profit to donate! If there is enough willingness in content creators, I imagine I’ll compile a digital only NSFW ship as much as you -

Like version of the zine as well![2]

@ghostsjogging also wanted to keep the zine mostly spoiler-free[3]

Applications closed on January 5, 2019.[4] On January 6th, the zine mods announced that they'd received 125 applications[5] Artists were contacted on the 19th[6] and writers were contacted on the 21st.[7] The official list of contributors was posted on January 22, 2019.[8] The

Purity Wank and Art Theft

At about 8am EST on February 1, @RdrZine posted an somewhat vague announcement indicating that one or more contributors had been removed from the project:

Announcement: we have been contacted regarding some issues with some of the contributors to the zine. We want to thank you for reaching out and want everyone concerned to know we take these things seriously and have taken action. Thank you.[9]

The same morning, the zine mod @ghostsjogging had the following exchange with another user, replying to a tweet that has since been deleted:

[@ghostjogging]

Sorry again that that was even a threat to begin with. We are glad that someone made us aware.[10]

[@beeeboxx]

Its alright. Sorry for just deleting that tweet, also. It felt pointed and unfair despite frustrations. Thanks for actually taking action about them.[11]

[@ghostjogging]

Oh it’s alright! I just felt the need to apologize. Whether intentional or not, THAT presence in the zine was an issue. I understand your frustrations. ❤️[12]

Several hours later, an anonymous user posted to fail_fandomanon's Fandom Venting thread complaining about mods in an unspecified fandom zine removing contributors in response to purity wank brought up by callout posts:

[FFA subthread OP]

I was asked to contribute to a (medium/small) fandom zine. Today the mods made an announcement on the zine Discord that they're kicking some contributors off the project because the contributors have a history of "unsavory content" (i.e underage and incest) and some people have made callout posts about them. The mods did this while claiming they don't have time to play "purity politics" (and yet they do have time to play purity police..). FML.[13]

A nonnie asked, "Will it be okay to withdraw yourself or do you think that’ll make you a target too?"[14] leading to this conversation indicating that more than one artist might be removed from the zine:

[FFA subthread OP]

They've asked anyone else who might have made similar content to bow out so they don't have to "address these allegations and have to scramble for awkward remedies" in the future. They haven't named the contributors they've kicked out at least, but they cite public callout posts so presumably their names are out there. Ughhh.

I'm probably going to withdraw and make it clear I'm not comfortable giving them my work any more. I haven't written underage but I have written incest and xeno/bestiality so I'm probably a target in someone's eyes.[15]

[Nonnie]

That’s unfortunate and ominous. Like, ‘address these allegations’ really...[16]

[FFA subthread OP]

Yeah, it sucks. :( This is the first time I've ever been picked for anything like this and I was super excited to be part of it but I'm not really comfortable contributing to something that's being influenced by anti culture like that. It sucks to see artists being removed from a project because someone has been shitty about them in public - and not even about the content they'll be making for the zine.[17]

The subthread OP was encouraged to "name and shame"[18] and did so, revealing that it was the Wolf's Head zine[19] and that not only had they figured out which artist it was that had been pulled from the zine, but that the artist was being targeted for art theft:

[FFA subthread OP]

The worst thing is the little shits who reported them are stealing their art and reposting it without credit because they think the artist doesn't deserve it for doing art of BNHA kids

[...]

Fuck this toxic nonsense.[19]

They provided links to the art theft in question, showing @glytchling, the art thief, posting the unsourced art the day before @RdrZine's announcement.

[@glytchling]

Artist is a fucking freak but this is a nice pic so I'm just gonna post it without cred :^)[20]

[@glytchling]

Some more stolen art watch me whip watch me nae nae[21]

Neither @beeeboxx (the user who seems to have complained about the artist's involvement to the mods) or @glytching are zine participants, but they do appear to be friends in the same social circle with the same vernacular and ideology.[22]

Nonnies on fail_fandomanon were very sympathetic towards the subthread OP and outraged on the artist's behalf, several of them suggesting that the artist should file DCMA takedowns with twitter.[23]

The subthread OP also added:

[FFA subthread OP]

...it sucks that the mods would rather support the bullies/antis than the artists that they supposedly respect/love enough to ask to be in the zine.

[...]

Calling someone who has done underage/incest art a "threat"?? Fuck offffff.[24]

Several days later, the subthread OP posted in a different thread saying that several more people had dropped out of the zine and that @glytchling was still stealing art from the first artist targeted by the antis.[25][26]
