Slightly less embarrassing than the first fic ["Chiaroscuro" in Relative Secrecy]. But only slightly. (Online version is reworked somewhat from print version, FYI.) [1]

Reactions and Reviews

A beautiful little portrait of Illya as observed by an old Russian woman living in his apartment block. Through her sharp eyes, we see him first arrive, the attention he attracts, as well as some of the trials of being an U.N.C.L.E. agent. The setting is so vividly realised, from the cigarettes to the music to the news on the radio - reading this is as good as being there in person. Wait for the revelation in the final scene - it's extremely moving and memorable.[2]

This has been one of my very favorite stories since I first read it. The attention to detail and evocative clarity of the writing take me back in time with each reading. Thank you for reccing it and inducing me to re-read.[3]

Isn't this a beautiful story? Her other MfU story is Chiaroscuro - very different in tone. I wish she'd write more (are you reading this, Katya?) but Window in particular is something special.[4]

Thanks for the rec, and all the lovely comments. I'm so glad to hear you liked the story, C.C. -- I really appreciate the thoughtful comments, and everyone's kind words! And honestly, it's not lack of self-confidence that keeps me from writing more -- I wish that was the case, but sadly, I'm perfectly willing to write complete crap. No, much as it pains me to admit, I suffer from a near-total dearth of interesting ideas. A plot, a plot...my kingdom for a plot.[5]

...it’s told from another character’s pov and it’s not explicit. BUT – I can’t tell you how much I love this story.

And Katya? Repeat after me: “I will never take this story down from the internet!” :D ... I looove it! The wonderful, slightly melancholy mood leaves me smiling happily for hours after I’ve read it. The story has a sort of spicy, warm feel to it. Besides, Katya has a way of getting straight to the point and showing the characters true to who they are in the series, even through this outside pov. Also, she manages to make Illya so Russian. It’s easy to forget that Russian is not just an adjective – it’s an integral part of who Illya is, despite years exposed to other cultures. We follow Illya from his first day - and -

Go see for yourself! [6]

Really touching and well done. And a good example of hor OC characters can be used productively.[7]

...a really wonderful story. I love its simplicity that still brings such depth to the characters. Even Napoleon, with little more than a walk-on, is somehow shown complete.[8]

I adore this story, one of the best in the fandom, I think. I'm very glad you recced it.[9]

This is absolutely one of my favorite stories. I read it somewhere, quite a while ago. Someone had posted a link to it. I often tried to find that link, but never found it again. I am so pleased to find it here today.

The characters are so well written, I thought I was sitting in the window myself. I hope that one day I will be able to write with such style.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.[10]
