Where the White Lilies Grow is a gen apocafic by Eildon Rhymer. It was written for the Stargate Atlantis Gen Ficathon. The prompt was: Clarke's Law (i.e. "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic").
Summary: People tell stories about the wonders of the Time Before. They tell stories, too, about magical creatures with long, fair hair, who emerge from the hill and can turn you to dust in an instant. But John Sheppard has never been one to believe in stories...
In this story a Rodney McKay from an Atlantis expedition with no contact to earth and without a John Sheppard accidentally ends up back on earth, but in an alternate reality where some cataclysmic natural event happened in the nineteenth century. Rodney needs help to get back and John needs a new purpose in life. The characters are principally Sheppard and McKay, but the rest of the team appear in the last third.
Reactions and Reviews
In this AU two alternate realities collide via a Stargate malfunction: a Rodney from an Atlantis that has been cut off from Earth without a Sheppard joining the expedition gets stranded (unfortunately with Wraith too) on an post-apocalyptic version Earth, where he runs into that reality's John Sheppard.
