What Price, Freedom? is a Chakotay/Paris story by Moonshadow (19,654 words).
Summary (Angst Archive): While on shore leave, Tom Paris is arrested on suspicion of rape. What happens next shocks and horrifies everyone.
The story comes with the note: "This story is set early third season, before TPTB conveniently forgot about the hostility between Chakotay and Paris. A sequel might follow if I have the time and energy. It's not the most original idea in the world, but it's been kicking around on my hard drive for a while now and I've finally summoned the courage to share it with you guys."
What Price, Freedom? was completed in May 1997[1] and was posted to BLTs and CPSG first, before it was posted in six parts to Trekslash on September 01, 1997 and to alt.startrek.creative.erotica.moderated on Ocotber 15, 1997. A sequel followed just a few months later and both stories are usually regarded as two parts of one story today.
What Price, Freedom? was a 1997 Golden Orgasm Winner (1st place) in the categories Best VOY Story and Best Chakotay/Paris.
This story has a sequel called Strange Angel.

Poor Tom Paris, the guy never seems to catch a break. When he’s accused of rape while on shore leave, the native’s system of justice calls for retribution -- to be administered by Chakotay. Moonshadow delves deeply into the emotional ramifications of the situation with remarkable skill. Note: this story contains themes of non-consensual sex.[2]
What Price, Freedom?: Paris is accused of rape while on shore leave and the punishment, according to planetary law, is an 'eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth'. But since Torvellian anatomy is incompatible with Human, an alternative sentence is offered -- a male from among Voyager's crew now has to rape Tom instead. Strange Angel: After the events on Torval, Chakotay discovers his feelings toward Tom have changed. Tom's feelings, however are less clear. Then there's Harry who's fighting his own attraction to the pilot. That's when a strange ship is found on a deserted planet and everything changes once again..."[3]
For all the faithful Chakotay/Paris lovers who keep checking our site for the elusive sequel to In This Corner, we'd like to recommend Moondancer's wonderful C/P stories, What Price, Freedom? and Strange Angel. These stories, though not new, are two of our absolute favorites, and they exemplify the kind of C/P that Jan and June love to read -- they have emotion, plot, hot sex (with biting!), fighting, and lovely, lovely angst.
