I’m wondering if this vignette is a PWP – plot, what plot? But of course it has plot. It does not have any underlying adventure going on, but who needs it. There are twists and turns aplenty. Kirk and Spock turn into each others arms as if they are pieces of a puzzle separated too long. They twist off the sofa and onto the floor without noticing the fall, because they are so completely absorbed in each other. You want more? There is also excellent pacing and a few surprises along the way. These are characters from STII era, and Spock has just returned to their shared home after six weeks on a cadet cruise. Welcome home is a nice theme, and it was enjoyable from beginning to end. An intimate look into the lives of our favorite men which allows us to eavesdrop on open and honest dialogue, a shared meal, and the satisfying of other appetites as well. All of this is set against the backdrop of a holovid broadcast of a news interview Kirk did the previous day, which adds further insight into the Admiral’s thought processes and proves he hasn’t lost his ability to charm the socks off anyone he chooses.
