"Walk Away" is a Smallville slash vid by Aelora. The pairing is Clark Kent/Lex Luthor. It was reviewed on August 4, 2006, by boniblithe at the reel vidding community.

Vidder's notes: "I created this vid in response to the reasons I wanted to see Lex finally turn on Clark - because he wasn't the friend he should have been."

Reactions/Reviews

From the 2006 the the reel review:

Overall Impression: Attention to color shifts denoting time & emotional states, differentiates this wistful “rift” vid from the crowded field of Clex vids.

Titles: Simple black & white – dedication at the beginning, credits at the end, nothing of note.

Music choice: It’s difficult to vid a slow-paced, acoustic song; the vidder does a fine job here. Non-shippers will probably not appreciate the song choice.

Narration, Tone and Movement: Narration: At its most basic, this is a wistful, heartbroken Clex ‘shipper vid, so like many Clex ‘shipper vids before it the primary focus is on showing a lot of clips of Clark and Lex looking at each other in the way that made so many slashers into Smallville fans in the first place. The narrative is served primarily by the lyrics; corresponding clip choice requires some understanding of context from the show in order to understand where the vidder is going. Tone: Sad, wistful, indicated by both color and song. The song does not seem vindictive, so Clark beating Lex against a table and Lex dropping bombs at the end was a bit of a surprise. Movement: Nothing of note to mention here.

Cuts, Transitions, Effects & Colouring/Coloring: The vidder uses a sepia-tone to differentiate past events (=friendship/affection); this makes the tone of the clips lighter overall and plays well against the darker, yet full-color present (=mistrust/rift). Also the dreamy, glow effect of “future” and Lex blowing stuff up (although this is not consistent, in the whole-earth shot – and did I miss something, or is that from BSG? - the hazy white effect is not applied to make that shot balance the other “future” images which do have this effect in the original source). With the contrasting colorless sections, it made me notice just how often red and blue (especially red) are used as point-of-interest colors in Smallville, but I digress. Here was an area that the vidder could have played up even further with clip selection targeted around those red indicators to draw the eye to specific objects, maybe for a future vid take note :)

Nothing of note regarding transitions or effects to mention here.

Specific vid & music notes: At around 3:16 the color shifts from full color into sepia in the middle of a clip and for the life of me I still just cannot figure out why.

Final notes: Overall, the vid tells a story that will be understood and appreciated by Clex fans old and new.
