User talk:Melodyclark
Hi, Melody; I noticed you've been adding commentary on Talk pages, and wanted to let you know that you can sign your comments so people can see who made them and when without having to check the talk page's history. At the end of your comment, type a space, then click the second-go-last button on the edit toolbar, the one that looks a bit like hand-written letters (between the red circle and the straight line); that will add a signature like the one I've got here. :) --Arduinna 04:54, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip. I've done so.
Except for that time, of course. :) --Melodyclark 14:51, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
edit revert and temporary page protection
I have now twice reverted an edit you made that involved deleting a piece of information from the Melody Clark page. Judging by the associated talk page, it appears that the information (that you ran the MACCA mailing list) is factually accurate and does not violate any of our policies, so it is not clear to me why this information (which is relevant to our interest in documenting mailing list fandom as well as your fannish history) keeps getting removed. Please discuss your concerns on the talk page. Also, I don't think anyone has warned you before, but mass-deleting or repetedly deleting content is Vandalism, and users can be banned for malicious edits. If you continue to make disruptive edits in the future, you may be banned.--æþel 15:30, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
So I am unable to remove information, which I have taken great pains to have removed from elsewhere on the web, for personal security reasons (the other Macca-L list runners have done the same), because you guys decide it must be so? And if I dare protect myself from being bothered by fans (and it's not just me, the other Macca-L people have had the same problem), then I will be guilty of malicious vandalism? I don't have the right to safeguard my own peace of mind? Is that it? If I receive further harassing email from people, can I then send it to you to handle?--Melodyclark 16:16, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- If this is an Identity Protection issue, please contact the wiki committee.--æþel 17:02, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for contacting the wiki committee, per æþel's request.
- While we need to balance our responsiveness to fans' requests for edits with our mission of preserving fannish history, we recognize that sometimes fans need to lower their profile online. When you originally created your Fanlore page, you used your full name. However if this is now causing you concern, we can revert your page to first name, last initial (the pre-1995 name policy) which will lower your Google profile. You may want to also take steps in other areas of your online life to prevent people from finding you (such as preventing Google from indexing your livejournal or websites.) Please let us know if this is acceptable to you.
- Our issue with your edits is that they were made without working the changes through the communal editing process. Repeated "edit wars" are grounds for editing privileges being revoked. In looking over your Talk page and its extensive history, we see that you and the community have, in the past, been able to successfully resolve your requests for edits; please do continue to use the community editing process.
- And, as always, feel free to email the wiki committee again if you have further concerns.

No, I want my real name connected to the work I have done. I do NOT want Macca-L listed in the bio, for the reasons I have outlined. I do not think requesting this one edit is out of line. You may then lock the thing for all time, revoke my privileges, and I'll be happy.
Otherwise, I'll have to take my own steps.

This is probably overkill, but just to be extra clear, when I say "mass-deleting or repeatedly deleting", I am referring to this (8 January 2010) and this (7 March 2011), not just this (24 September 2011). Sorry if my warning was confusing.--æþel 23:34, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
If I repeatedly edit my own page (taking out a tiny bit of data about me that causes me problems), then I am banned. But a troll can post a snide, mean remark about me, that adds nothing to my bio, and you guys determine it should be allowed to stand? How is that "just the facts"? I didn't have a problem with that before, when I thought you were trying to be fair, but it's very clear to me now that trolls have free reign to post anything editorial or suspect, but writers can go fuck themselves. Incidentally, I'm just posting this since you emailed me. I've resigned myself to Fanlore having become Fandom TMZ. I say this not to Doro or the other people who've been fair to me, but to the one or two who are guiding your policy.--Melodyclark 17:09, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
