Toshiko Sato, or "Tosh," is part of the initial main cast on the sci-fi series Torchwood. Toshiko was a computer specialist on the Torchwood Three team. She died at the end of season two from a gunshot wound. She is portrayed by Naoko Mori.
Toshiko experiences UST for teammate Owen Harper. She has a brief sexual relationship with a woman, Mary, who turns out to be an alien ('Greeks Bearing Gifts').
Naoko Mori appears in one episode of Doctor Who as 'Dr. Sato' ('Aliens of London'). She performs an autopsy on the suspected alien and discovers its true nature, meeting the Ninth Doctor in the course of her work. Later, Toshiko explains that she was filling in for Owen, who as the team's medical doctor should have been responsible for the autopsy. The source of her medical knowledge is never explained; however, her intelligence is established in the series, and it is entirely probable that she should have learned enough working with Owen to perform such an autopsy on her own.
