Topanga was the mailing list for the fan club, David Soul Appreciation Club. The David Soul Appreciation Club was officially sanctioned by Soul which included regular letters by Soul.

One of the founders shut down the mailing list after reading a direct letter from David Soul which was posted for fan club members.

The Beginning

From March 1997:

The Topanga-List

I'm dreaming up to organize something for the David Soul fans online. Because we are sooo international, it's difficult to chat because of the time distances, but I like the idea of a list for David-fans, for laughing and dreaming together and to discuss his projects. Even about something very David-special like Bathroom scenes in Key to Rebecca for example. LOL. I'll contact my provider in Germany what I have to do to let it run. It is recently a plan and I hope it will work! And because that means mostly David's work after Starsky and Hutch I think it will be not a competition for the BBS, the Zebrathree, the PMG-online-fans....or for Kirsten's DSAC homepage, because it will be a discussion list.

And I would like to name it Topanga, because this list could have something like Patchwork curtains, if everyone would like to give a piece of her mind, what she thinks for example about David's interviews, songs, movies or coming plans, it could be a wonderful colored Patchwork-thing! So I hope there will be Soulmates, who like to join. Hopefully, David will tolerate to use the title Topanga; I hope it will not a problem for him, because we will be not commercial and he likes communication. [1]

From May 1997:

Topanga - The Start

Hi Soulmates. With the kind help of Robin, who is letting us use her account for the next three months, we can start our David Soul mailing list ‘Topanga.' We are in the process of obtaining the means to run ‘Topanga' ourselves and will be switching over to it as soon as possible. In the meantime, many thanks to Robin for providing us with a temporary home. We want to make as little work for Robin as possible, so if you are interested, please E-mail Conny or Carol during the next five days! We will then be able to send the names to Robin at one time. All of you who contacted Conny in the past are already on the list and will get the Guidelines soon. So would you like to join us for chatting and having fun? Then please contact us, it would be a joy to have you on the list: The Topanga List owners, Carol :) and Conny :) [2]

The End

When celebrating last year my first anniversary in the S&H fandom, I noticed that there was no reason for me to celebrate the first year in the DSAC (to be concrete IMO, the high-nose strange style of the English leader and her games). Like many others I tolerated it for some months because it seemed the only possible way to show support for Mr. Soul, but then I decided to accept it no longer and left the DSAC.

For some reasons (and especially as a German reading the last message Mr. Soul wrote for the DSAC) I also no longer want to use my homepage for advertising his new CD nor my E-Mail address for any requests for it. Please write in the future to my friend Isabelle for CDs orders only, thanks.

Also it no longer matters to me to invest *time* as a co-founder of the Topanga mailing list for DS-fans, because I have to believe in an artist, when I run a list for his fans. This means the mailing list ‘Topanga' for DS-fans is history and no longer exists.

I want to thank my friends in the last weeks for their support and understanding and beg you to respect this step (Carol, you were a great Tpg-partner). I won’t let this touch the fun and friendships I still have in the S&H-fandom nor the love of those fictional figures.
