Thoughtful Fandom is a fan who posts to Tumblr and Twitter regarding fandom discourse. They are broadly pro-"ship and let ship" and against fanwork censorship or bullying of creators.

In July 2019 they posted that they were wanting to build "a new fandom-centric platform". This platform could be ready by mid-2020, they said.[1]

To be clear, the philosophy underlying this site will be very pro-freedom of expression, so anti-rhetoric and the associated bullying will not be welcome there. However, I also want to take concerns about predators in fandom seriously, so I want to include mechanisms that will help people protect themselves from malicious people, and allow them to easily avoid content they find disturbing, while still allowing people the artistic freedom to explore such dark and strange subject matter, without being harassed for doing so.

I'm just wondering why you're considering building a whole new site when PillowFort and Pixiv already exist.
What we have in mind is a site dedicated to identifying the problems and needs of the fandom community in particular and evolving to address these problems and needs. I’ve been in fandom for 14 years and I’ve found that most social media sites don’t have all the features that best serve the full range of fandom activities, so I decided to create one that does. I can’t go into details about all the features until my team give me the go ahead, but I will say that a lot of the features that have been suggested by people here are ones that I already had in mind and plan to implement. I also want to have a fandom space that makes an active effort to combat the anti vitriol that has become particularly bad in recent years.

In September 2019 they posted "We’ve got the URL and base app set up, and the team’s now working on building the core features"[2], and specified the site would be "a bit like a mashup of LJ, tumblr and AO3".[3] In January 2020, they posted that the platform would hopefully go into Beta by April.[4]

In January 2020 they revealed the platform would be called Fanexus.
