The Sun and Moon Show (username stylized as "Sun and Moon Show," YouTube banner stylized as "The Moondrop and Sunrise Show") is a YouTube channel dedicated to voice actors roleplaying as the Sun and Moon from Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach through Let's Plays and VR Chat. Over time, they have also introduced other canon characters such as Mongomery Gator and Roxanne Wolf, as well as original characters, such as Lunar, Bloodmoon, and Killcode. The Sun and Moonshow functions as an alternate universe of FNAF:SB, and is both a fanwork and contains a fandom.

Sun, Eclipse, and Lord Eclipse are played by The Invisible Davis, while Moon, Lunar, Killcode, and Bloodmoon are played by EC_Universal. Both actors have prior experience roleplaying FNAF in Minecraft servers.

Characters

  • Sun (or Sunrise) is loud and hyperactive, though often anxious. Later, Sun's personality is affected by Eclipse, causing him to occasionally be aggressive or self-doubting. He is played by The Invisible Davis.
  • Moon (or Moondrop) is not as hyperactive as Sun, but is not necessarily shy. He is often sarcastic and playfully argumentative with other characters. Later, Moon's personality is affected by Eclipse, causing him to become more vocal and protective of Sun.
  • Eclipse, rather than being Sun and Moon combined (which is a common headcanon for the DCA), is a separate character with a malicious personality who often acts as a villain. Eclipse's "base code" is formed from Moon's but he takes the appearance of a darker and redder Sun. TSAMS Eclipse is not the same as canon Eclipse from the FNAF:SB Ruin DLC.
  • Lunar (or Lunar Eclipse) was introduced as Eclispse's brother and a second antagonist, however after a redemption arc was accepted as Sun and Moon's adopted brother. Lunar is often childish and naïve. He originally took the appearance of a re-colored Moon then took on a small, chibified model with a tail. However, he has since obtained his own original model, as the chibified model was modeled by VRChat player Inkypop who did not want her 3D models used for TSAMS original characters (see Character 3D Models and Inkypop).
  • BloodMoon is another antagonist, composed of two artificial intelligences (AI) with a murderous personality. They usually partner with Eclipse to cause chaos for Sun, Moon, and Lunar, though BloodMoon is more homicidal than Eclipse. BloodMoon takes the appearance of a cartoony red Moon with a pentagram theme.
  • Kill Code (or the Kill Code Virus) was a part of Moon's code which caused Eclipse and BloodMoon to come into creation. Kill Code is a sentient virus inside of Moon and is resentful and jealous of Sun and Lunar.
  • Earth is a calm and motherly character who is a sister to Sun, Moon, and Kill Code. She is an original character originally based on Inkypop's Earth design, but has since received her own 3D model, and does not share a personality with Inkypop's Earth. She is voiced by Queen Kat.

Character 3D Models and Inkypop

Originally, TSAMS used some avatar models by Inkypop, a popular VRchat 3D modeler for DCA and other fandoms. Specifically, models used for Lunar, Kill Code, and Earth were based on Inkypop DCA models, with Earth being based on an AU and original character by Inkypop. After reaching out to them, TSAMS removed the video featuring Inkypop's Earth, changed the 3D models used, and commissioned an original model for their Earth character.[1] A comment by Inkypop on the situation is included below.

Although they did not credit me at all for using my models or others models, I pushed it aside at first. What really got me to pay attention and change my mind was when they used my OC, Earth. I really did not like how they protrayed my character, didn't ask for permission to use it in a video where they can profit off it, and once again-- Did not credit me. It's true that all those models were public at the time (Infact, VER 6 Moon (Lunar) and VER 13 Moon (Killcode) are still public to this day). However, the core misunderstanding between the creators and I, was what you could do with my public models.

This would also apply to any other model they used of mine. The heartbreaking thing to see is that, even though it is done and over with, and even though they are discontinuing the use my models in their VRChat videos-- I still see people looking at VER 6 and VER 13 of my moon avatars and reconizing that as "the SAMS's" instead of my own.

I did not want to start a harassment thingy going on. I just didn't want my Earth to become theirs. But now, they have their own Earth design! And from the conversation we had, they told me they plan to have more designs from their team rather than from communities that has nothing to do with them like myself-- Which makes me very happy to hear!

Plot

The Sun and Moon show follows the Sun and Moon siblings' escapades as they interact in separate bodies. The YouTube channel was "created" by the siblings so they could spend more time together, and they play games and interact in VR Chat. When in VR Chat the plot tends to include more lore, usually a combination of comedy and drama, such as an early plot in which Sun attempts to date Roxanne Wolf. Generally, the plot is broken down into "seasons," and each season into "parts."

The large majority of, if not all, TSAMS is improvised, leading to wild plotlines and situations that often go back to "normal" later. Major plotlines early in the series tend to cause the creation of new original characters. In season 1 part 1 Eclipse is revealed and Kill Code is hinted at existing. In seasons 2 part 1 Lunar is revealed, and he works with Eclipse attempting to take control over Sun and Moon's bodies. After Eclipse becomes violent towards Lunar, Lunar collaborates with BloodMoon to help Sun and Moon. BloodMoon receives a body as a result and then Sun expels Eclipse from his body. By season 2 part 3 alternate universes are introduced, such as one where Eclipse won and made Sun his servant. Additionally, magic is a canon component of TSAMS.

Alternate Universes

Canon AUs

The Sun and Moon Show has canonical AUs, usually in the form of videos breaking the established roles of characters. For example, "What if ECLIPSE isn't EVIL in VRCHAT" begins the "Nice AU," an AU in which Eclipse is not a villain.[2]

Fanon AUs

Fans modify canon AUs as well as create their own original AUs. Some AUs in TSAMS fanon as listed in the TSAMS fan wiki are below.[3]

  • Evil Lunar: Created by Professor_Jake, in which Lunar controls the Newton Star and turns against Eclipse.
  • TSAMS War: Using the "If Eclipse Won" canon AU, YouTubers and members on the fandom wiki write their OCs starting a rebellion against Lord Eclipse or are otherwise loyal to him in the "Loyalist" faction.
  • Human AU: Simply an AU in which the cast are humans. Some artists may change the story and plot to their liking in this AU, or otherwise write them as living normal domestic human lives.

"TSAMS AU" tag on Tumblr also reveals many artists' personal AUs. For example, "Recovering BloodMoon AU" by user basilbots, an AU in which BloodMoon is taken care of by Sun.[4] However, there are several other interpretations of Sun caring for or rehabilitating BloodMoon, so this AU may not be basilbots's alone.

The artist bitterkarmaa on Tumblr created a visual timeline combining the canon timeline of TSAMS with the timeline of their AU fanfiction. [5]

Fandom

TSAMS is relatively popular at 400k subscribers as of March 2023, with some videos reaching up to 100k views. It has a fanbase of fans who engage by creating fanart, fanfiction, videos, memes, and AUs. On Archive of Our Own, "Web Series: Sun and Moon Show (Five Nights at Freddy's)" has 126 fanworks as of April 2023, while on Wattpad it has 213. One of the most popular Wattpad TSAMS fanfics is an Eclipse redemption arc fic titled ~ A Guilty Homicide ~ : An Eclipse Redemption Arc by RachelWeiler, which has 2k+ views.[6] Additionally, TSAMS may be the main reason DCA roleplay and the Superstar Daycare world are popular in VRchat, with many players roleplaying as TSAMS characters there.

The Invisible Davis and EC_Universal interact with fans through TSAMS's official Discord, as well as making reaction videos where they react to TSAMS fanart.

Shipping

Because most of the characters are siblings, Sun and Moon and their variations within TSAMS are not usually shipped. Instead, characters are shipped with the Glamrock animatronics, for example Moon/Monty or "Moonty," or Sun/Roxanne. Or crackships, such as Lunar/Helpy.

Fan Spinoffs

Multiple series with the format of roleplaying as Daycare Attendant characters in VRchat sprung up after TSAMS, such as Celestial idiots[7] and theLUNARshow[8]
