The Singers and the Endless Song is a Yassen/Alex AU by galimau.
Summary: After catching the High Priest's attention, Alex was pulled out of his life to be blessed by a god he refused to be faithful to. Yassen Gregorovich is the conduit of a divine will, but even he hadn't expected a champion to appear before him, surly and clinging onto his better manners by the skin of his teeth.
The story is based on a concept and universe by wewillalwaysenduphere. In wewillalwaysenduphere's story In and Out of Frame about Actor!Yassen and Actor!Alex there is the following line:
Yassen shook his head. His tone was bordering on condescending. “I once played a man who was the chosen avatar of a god, losing his humanity more and more and becoming essentially divine. That’s what I would call an alien way of experiencing the world. Not being gay.”[1]
The Singers and the Endless Song explores that premise.
Recs and Reviews
An absolutely mesmerizing one-shot in a really unique AU (which was initially dreamed up by wewillalwaysenduphere and is referenced in their fic In and Out of Frame.) Galimau’s writing is pretty always but especially evocative here. There aren’t many full-out AUs, especially fantasy ones, in Alex Rider fic but this more than makes up for it! Another galimau work that I could read 100k words on and still not get bored of. Teen, complete. About as AU as you can get.[2]
