Reactions and Reviews

This story stands as proof that in the hands of a skilled author, it's quality, not quantity, which matters most when it comes to penning a K/S story. After all, you can write a 200 page novel, but if it reads like your tax booklet from the IRS, what kind of an impression is it going to leave? But if you take the time and make the effort to keep the characters "real," it doesn't matter if your story is 2 or 200 pages long, it will still leave an impression. And "The Road to Belonging," which fits into the former category (literally) is a brilliant example of that.

This story takes us on a short but informative journey through Spock's childhood, teenage years, and eventually his time in Starfleet and on the Enterprise, where he eventually meets one Captain James T. Kirk. And just like in the series, for the first time in his life, Spock finds himself in the presence of someone who doesn't try to make him either more Vulcan or more human, but just accepts him for who he is. As Spock's feeling for this human grows, at the same time he realizes he can take the relationship no further, as his Time is quickly approaching. It is only after those tragic events on Vulcan, which turn out to be not so tragic after all, that "Spock knew his journey was at an end."

A wonderful example that a high quality story doesn't have to be long to be good. [1]
