Reactions and Reviews
THE PORTRAIT was an early favorite as I enjoy stories which touch on the very personal, carefully hidden facets of Bodie and Doyle's personalities and this story does this so well.[2]
"Brass In Pocket" and "The Portrait" are my favourite soaps. They show how Bodie or Doyle can suffer so well by not being understood by their other, or rather believed unloved by his lover, suffering the pangs of unrequited love. Exquisite torture.[4]
... or one thing, it had 'mystery' to it— what the hell WAS Ray up to, anyway? It kept me guessing to the end. I think it said a lot about Bodle's own feelings of possessiveness — his insecurity, which he probably finds hard to admit to himself — and just how much he really IS willing and able to take from Ray, and how far he'll go to avoid 'pressuring' Ray in any way, before it finally becomes too much. It said quite a bit about Ray, too—not only about his artistic drives, but also how much Bodie HAS changed his life, even though it's hard for Ray to admit it.[5]
