The Perhaps Not-So Accidental Gay Coding of Kirishima Eijirou, formerly The Perhaps Accidental Gay Coding of Kirishima Eijirou, was a 57-page meta PowerPoint by blackdeku arguing that Kirishima Eijirou was purposefully coded as gay.

Contents

The PowerPoint points to the following in support of the theory:

  • Panels in BNHA Smash
  • Lack of interest in girls in the manga
  • His favorite things list including "tough guys," contrasted with Mineta's containing "girls"
  • Interactions in the BNHA stage play

Commentary

Some of you think reading this is optional and its really not. This slideshow put kirishima shipping discourse on the map even if you dont ship bakushima you shouod read this so you have an idea of what the hell literally me or anyone is talking about when we mention lgbt rep or like bakushima or kirishima at all

Very nice slideshow and very good points but this has me flashing back to johnlock, (remember all the essays and conspiracies? they were well-written and very convincing) and we all know how that turned out. So we can say yeah, Kirishima is gay-coded and all that. We can say, in the manga there's trans characters, and thats awesome. But if you think they'll ever put explicit LGBT rep in the TV show or manga, you're a fool. It doesn't matter that it's 2018. Don't get your hopes up about LGBT rep in good TV shows cause you're always setting yourself up for disappointment.

Sequel

On July 19th, 2018[3], the creator released a second PowerPoint: The perhaps! gay-coding of Bakugou Katsuki discussing the possibility Bakugou being a gay character. This PowerPoint is shorter, consisting of only seven slides discussing the lack of potential romantic endgame partners presented for Bakugou in the manga.

Impact

As of October 2024, the post has garnered over 5,000 notes on Tumblr. It influenced the creation of the anti kirimina tag on Tumblr.[4]
