The Magnificent Quest is a Magnificent Seven Chris/Vin AU slash 173-page novel by Miz Nettie.
It was first online, THEN in print form. The print zine was published by Jackie Beeman and Pat Diggs.
In it, Vin is a half-elf who discovers the true meaning of his heritage when he and his friends are on a quest to warn the king because evil forces threaten the kingdom.
Regarding the online version: originally the story was posted in two places, one on a gen site with the slash taken out, and the complete version on a slash site.
About: From the Online Version
From the online version:
A "Magnificent Seven" tale set in the universe of Dungeons & Dragons
Improved By: Jackie, Jean, Shay, and Thalia. These people really know how to combine corrections with encouragement. Without their help, this story would have suffered from furry storms, Indian fakirs, annoying rings, and a whole lot of missing commas. If you like the story, all the honor and accolades go to them
Very Special Thanks: To Nancy, for inspiring the story and giving it such a wonderful home. She also created the fantastic images which just go to prove that a picture really is worth a thousand words.
Brief Explanation: The idea for this story came from a descriptive phrase in Nancy's story, One Day in Sector Seven. Set in a Star Trek AU, she cast Vin as a Vulcan and described him as looking like an elf. (It's a great story, by the way, and I highly recommend it.) The phrase "like an elf" stuck in my mind and gradually evolved into The Magnificent Quest.
A few background notes: 'Bysha' is the goddess worshipped by the majority of the human population. 'The Seven Pits' are the equivalent of our Hell. The worse the sinner, the lower the pit he is sent to. 'Candlemarks' are about an hour in length. A 'turn' refers to a set of seasons and so is approximately one year. If you read the story and come across something you don't understand and would like an explanation, feel free to write to me I'll make up an answer and send it back to you.

About: From the Print Version
There are times when I literally "kick" myself for old assumptions and misconceptions. This story and the production of this zine is one of those instances.
Approximately twenty months ago I read a posting on one of the lists I belong to where a new author was requesting the aid of a "beta-reader". The story was centered in the Dungeons and Dragons universe, of which I knew nothing about, and had little interest. Needless, to say I passed on the opportunity while mentally wishing the author much luck. A couple of days later I noticed that the request was repeated, and after a little thought I decided to put aside one of my rules to NEVER-EVER "beta" an on-line story. I don't know why I changed my mind but thought, if the author had any talent at all, not only would I not have to know anything about the universe as the story would accomplish that, but I might learn a little about a fantasy classic without having to play the actual game. Anyone who knows me knows I studiously avoid games of all types.
Then "The Magnificent Quest-Book One" arrived and much to my surprise and delight I found an author who was not only incredibly talented, but was willing to listen and learn from all of the suggestions and corrections I presented her with. That led me to ask for actual contact via the low-tech medium of the telephone. And twenty months later I have one of the best friends I've ever known. Someone who I love and trust, share all of the good and bad things that happen in my life AND hers, shares a lot of the same interests, likes and dislikes, and a person who sometimes knows me better than I know myself! We have a friendship that has nothing to do with fandom although we met through the medium. To think I almost missed this by "passing" on a "beta" experience for an on-line story.
Following this line of thought, I have now broken another hard and fast rule I've followed since I've been doing zines, and that is to NEVER-EVER print an online story in zine form. Both Pat and I felt that this story (an epic tale actually) was incredible enough that it should be presented beyond just the on-line format and audience. After all there are many fans out there that have been in fandom for MANY years that do not own a computer and do not have access to one. Why shouldn't they be afforded the luxury of an exceptional story? I feel that too often, now a days we forget that not everyone is computer savvy or has a computer.
So here it is, a fully edited version the "The Magnificent Quest" Books 1-1V (Chpt. 1 only). Yes I realize that it is not in its entirety, but it is not only totally plotted, it will be available after the first of the year. This version does include the slash section that had to be separated out and put on two different sites, where it actually belongs.
