The Giles Thing is a BtVS fanfiction by Dr.Squidlove, pairing Giles/Xander.
While Bronzing it one night, Xander finds his eyes drawn to a strange guy on the other side of the room who keeps giving him a rather surly stare back. Eventually he decides enough is enough and leaves for the night. Only mystery man doesn’t seem to have gotten the memo and follows him out, and traps him against the wall. And proceeds to make out with him. It’s not until after some seriously naughty touching that Xander realizes he’s making out with a much younger Giles - 18 year old Ripper.

You must NOT miss this fic! 18 year old Giles comes to the future (season 3 BtVS), this is quite slash Xander/Ripper slash, but it's an awesome Giles character study, showing how young Giles thought about becoming a watcher. Great Giles voice, perfect S3 Xander, Buffy, Willow voices.[1]
I know... I *know*! This pairing squicks me... teacher/student ALWAYS squicks me, but this is different. Giles' younger Ripper self gets pulled into the future, and Xander learns a few things. Very lovely, in a juvenile delinquent sort of way.[2]
Why I fangirl this: Because this isn’t a fic where teenage Xander falls in love with grown-up Giles on his own, but because he recognizes how much Giles has changed and how impressive grown up Giles really is. Because the time travel here works, which is really rare in fanfic (or in movies and TV).[3]
This is THE Xander/Giles fic. Epic in its length, character development, character voices and plot. Starts with 18 year old Giles coming to the future (season 3 BtVS), and things get complicated with Xander. My favorite parts are when we reach S4 and things take off with Giles and Xander, then the other Scoobies are in the know - I just LOVE when we get the reaction of other Scoobies to the ship and they’re sympathetic and real - not lazy character bashing writing - my favorites were Joyce and Tony Harris’ reactions.
