Summary
"The story within a story, as a gift conquers time and space to bring two people together."
Reactions and Reviews
- "Spock's rich voice, his eyes like velvet, the heat of his hand, suffused Kirk with a feeling of Rightness."
- "And they touched, right there; touched mind and heart and body..."
- " these men,... who travel among the stars yet find love in common where it always is, in the heart and spirit."
I offer these quotes as examples of the lovely poetic writing that is usual with this author. I especially like the "eyes like velvet" as the comparison is beautifully unexpected and I wish rd thought of it!
An unusual story that begins in the past with two women who are analogous to Kirk and Spock. One mysteriously receives a crystal and is transported to the future (at least psychically) to learn of Kirk and Spock. When she returns, she finds love with her companion just as K and S have.
There were some problems. If it were not for the inventive poetic language, the theme teeters precariously on the cliche. Also, the device of the crystal was an excellent one, but not fully realized enough. What should be an intriguing mystery is only unexplained enough as it (the crystal and its messenger) is left to the reader's best guess. Also not explained enough was the two women and their relationship. I didn't know enough about them to particularly care if they discovered each other or not. I think sometimes spare can be too spare.
Despite this, it's a delightful tale that shows how love is the bridge" across all boundaries. [1]
