The Backrooms is a creepypasta and form of online urban legend involving the idea of a space outside of the known universe in which one can enter by noclipping to it. The story suggests that the Backrooms involve a maze of randomly generated spacious, empty rooms with yellow carpets smelling of moisture, and dull, buzzing fluroscent lights, as well as various creatures or entities. The idea originated on 4chan, and utilises the concept of liminal spaces.
The concept has generated somewhat of a fandom by itself, though it will also be used as a setting or plot device for other fandoms, commonly various MCYT channels, such as Dream SMP.
