Nathaniel 'Thaniel' Steepleton is one of the main characters in The Watchmaker of Filigree Street novel, written by Natasha Pulley.
He starts out as a telegraphist from the north of England, working for the Office.
He appears in fanworks, usually paired with canon love interest Keita Mori: Keita Mori/Thaniel Steepleton.
In Canon
Thaniel is from the North of England. A gifted pianist with synesthesia, he gave up playing to get a job as a telegraph operator at the Home Office, in London, to support his sister.
He accepts a marriage of convenience to Grace Carrow, eventually divorcing her to be with Keita Mori. He evnetually adopts Six, Mori's workhouse assistant.
Thanks to Mori, Thaniel picks up playing the piano again, helping Gilbert & Sullivan create The Mikado, and learns Japanese, becoming a translator for the Foreign Office.
Thaniel's poor health is at the center of many of the events of "The Lost Future of Pepperharrow."
