Utena is the eponymous protagonist of the anime series Shoujo Kakumei Utena/Revolutionary Girl Utena. She is a courageous and idealistic teenager who, after a childhood encounter with a mysterious prince, becomes deeply influenced by the ideal of noble, princely behavior. She is so inspired by this prince that she decides to become a prince herself, adopting masculine traits such as wearing a boy’s school uniform and striving to protect others. Her dream of meeting her prince again drives much of her personal journey.
