I'm proposing deletion of this template, whose only content (as far as I can tell) appears to be an apostrophe?
I don't think we need a template for that. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 12:18, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
- I agree. Also, when the template is added to a page, the ProposeDeletion template appears which is confusing and could cause problems. --SecurityBreach (talk) 12:39, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
- This is probably intended to serve the same purpose as Wikipedia:Template:'. Wikipedia's template is to aid readability of italics + apostrophe and adds a tiny bit of whitespace before the apostrophe. This template just substitutes
<nowiki>'</nowiki>
, which at least in my browser keeps the apostrophe from being italicised and looks a little better. Wikipedia's looks the best to me. Compare:''Homestuck'''s
➡ Homestuck's''Homestuck''<nowiki>'s</nowiki>
➡ Homestuck's''Homestuck''<span style="padding-left:0.1em;">'</span>s
➡ Homestuck's
- ProposeDeletion was appearing with the template because it wasn't <noinclude>'d on the template page but it's since been moved here so it's not a problem.
- The template isn't really necessary, but I do think it makes things look nicer (especially option #3). --sparc 19:18, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation, sparc! I see now why the template has been created, so I'll withdraw my assumption about it being unneeded ;) I can remove the ProposeDeletion notice and this discussion, but maybe we could add some notes to the template's page about what the template is and how it's used, which would also help future editors who might want to use it. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 20:37, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
- If the issue with the 'ProposeDeletion' template popping up unintentionally when using this template has been fixed, I agree it can stay. I also agree that a few words of explanation on how to use it would be helpful. --SecurityBreach (talk) 10:27, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, that was my fault, but it was fixed when I relocated the ProposeDeletion flag to this page. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 15:34, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- Oops, sorry. I was talking about the three 'ProposeDeletion' templates on the Homestuck page that you and I removed a few days ago. --SecurityBreach (talk) 15:45, 11 August 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, same issue. They got pulled in because I added the flag to this template xD That was what made me realise the cause... --enchantedsleeper (talk) 22:16, 21 August 2021 (UTC)

- I took the liberty of adding the 0.1em spacing and added a usage note. Hope it's clear enough! --sparc 01:27, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you, sparc, that's perfect! I've removed the ProposeDeletion flag and I think we can also remove this discussion since the template is now explained in the usage notes. --enchantedsleeper (talk) 22:16, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
