In general, it is very common for supernaturally-themed Chinese works to feature Taoist priests. They are very common across wuxia, xianxia, and historical works.

  • MXTX's works include references to Taoism and several characters who practice it. Xiao Xingchen, a popular supporting character in Mo Dao Zu Shi, is frequently referred to simply by his title of "daoist priest."
  • Yu Yu Hakusho[1]'s Hokushin is called Taoist in dialogue despite being associated with Buddhist imagery.

In Fandom

While many of the characters in MXTX's works are Taoists - several are addressed as "Daozhang (道长)" meaning Taoist priest (or cultivator) - there have been few fanworks that focus on the spiritual aspects outside of what appears directly in canon.
