Reactions and Reviews
The summary above actually gives you a pretty good synopsis of what you’re getting into with this story. If you’re wanting something heavy on plot, this is not the fic for you, but if you want a story focusing on character relationships and heavy on hurt/comfort (for BOTH Starsky and Hutch, even) then you can’t go wrong with Tandem. The story is set over the boys’ visit to wintertime Minnesota and even amidst the hurt part of the hurt/comfort and the family drama, the authors still manage to capture that comfortable vacation feeling. It’s slow, sweet, and gentle, and their coming together is natural and angst-free. Perfect for anyone craving a dash of hurt/comfort and angst with an emphasis on the comfort and romantic fluff. Also as a bonus: there is a lovely pencil drawing of Hutch at the beginning of the story worth checking out itself. [1]
It's short and really sweet and cozy. You know it's only "gen" because the dummies haven't figured it out yet. ;D The slash in Tandem is very, very mild but this is a lovely story that has so many things in its favor - Starsky h/c, sick-Hutch, Christmas presents, Hutch defending Starsky, an adorable nephew...certainly an enjoyable read. [2]
Why this must be read: This is post-Plague (I'm all about recovery fics;) Hutch is trying to reclaim his vigor after suviving the plague. Starsky's along for the ride. They're not lovers yet, but reading it...you know that they've just not said the words yet. Their actions are already there for the truth to be revealed. Kimberly Hutchinson-Kelly, Hutch's sister, asks Hutch to stay at their parents over Christmas to take care of the house and the horses. The key is that their parents aren't there, which is why Hutch can be finally convinced to accept the arrangement. His niece and nephew make an appearance, so I'm happy:) Starsky's a part of the family, in Hutch's sister's eyes. He's even the niece's godparent, as Hutch is the nephew's, so he's there to stay. Unfortunately, Hutch's parents don't appreciate the arrangement (as is often the case in SH fanfic). Pushing that aside, there's alot of discoveries to be made over the Christmas holiday. Among them, recognizing what love really is and what was right there all along. [3]
Quite possibly the best fanfic ever written. Just about perfect. [4]
came to S&H too late to know Paula Wilshe. But I enjoy her fiction and understand how greatly she is missed by the S&H online community. All her stories are great, but this one, which she wrote with the equally gifted Hutchrules3, is my favorite. It's set post-Plague. It's Christmas-time and Hutch is still not quite 100%, but he jumps at the chance to houses-sit for his folks over the holidays. Starsk tags along. Before you know it, we have first-time romance, generous amounts of h/c, family related angst and oodles of warm, tender interaction. This is a wonderful, wonderful feel good story that sweeps you away and makes you smile. [5]
A long, gentle story, set after The Plague, with Starsky and Hutch holidaying in a snowy Minnesota.[6]
