Is this a useful way to list a fandom that consists of three movies, with several different writers and directors? --Nestra 00:44, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- I think so. Movieverse fans and fanfic had distinct separate lists and included non comic fen. --Seperis 00:46, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- Wondering if we need to revisit this question... I can't think of a good way of separating things because DOFP used both casts, but it feels to me like the fandom for the first three movies is separate from the fandom of XMFC and XMDOFP, and thus both would benefit from having their own pages. It's just, at the moment the page professes to be about all the movies (which are sort of narratively tied together, even though they contradict each other CONSTANTLY) but it feels like it's really just about the first three movies and has shoehorned in some places where it points to the XMFC page (which, if it's going to be the main page for that part of the fandom, needs to be expanded with DOFP info). Thoughts? --PhoenixFalls (talk) 00:33, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- Yeah the page is mainly the first three movies (I was also trying to include the Wolverine movies as well), I've been trying to add to it but it's hard I was only part of a little tiny part of it during the most active days - I was into a few pairings mainly although I loved the films despite their faults so I can only add so much. And the XMFC was a prequel movie to the series and that fandom exploded which I can see why that one is a separate page since most of that fandom's characters and pairings are so different compared to XMM. Although now with DOFP, it's probably considered an alternate universe now, right? I think DOFP should probably get its own page, because it has both casts, XMM and XMFC, but also because I think the fandom sorta exploded again - at least I know for sure with Quicksilver, not quite sure about anyone else. --Harpie (talk) 01:28, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- It feels strange to me, though, to try and separate XMFC and XMDOFP - it has felt, to me, like XMDOFP fandom is mostly made up of people who've been keeping XMFC fandom alive since that movie came out, and I haven't seen anyone that was in the fandom for the first three movies that's suddenly come back because of DOFP, nor have I seen many new people who weren't involved in XMFC fandom suddenly arriving because of DOFP. Just in my (kind of ancillary) experience of the fandom, XMFC/DOFP seem like one fandom, and X1-2-3 seem like another fandom, even though the canons are connected. --PhoenixFalls (talk) 00:37, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- I don't know what to do for that... I mean I'm a fan of all of them and I consider them all of them as the X-Men Movieverse, although I've spent less time in XMFC part of the fandom because my pairings are(/were?) rare and everything I mainly saw/seen was Charles/Erik (which is fine, but I don't ship them although I love their frenemy relationship). Maybe you can think of it as more Buffy/Angel verse like? How they intertwined but sometimes didn't. I mean I'm sure a lot of XMFC fans were from the original movies. It's a tough call either way, and both pages (XMM & XMFC) need to be updated desperately either way to include DOFP so maybe include the fandom info that goes with whatever character/pairing (such as Quicksilver to XMFC; Rogue, Bobby/Kitty stuff to XMM) and just have a "(see also X-Men Movieverse#Fandom whatever)" added. Also if you think of the next movie coming out, which yes includes the XMFC only cast, it's also introducing a young Cyclops and a young Jean Grey (and possibly others) in the lineup who were all partial to the original three movies plus the Wolverine ones.--Harpie (talk) 02:50, 29 July 2014 (UTC)
- See, I'm more from the XMFC side of things, and I didn't even *know* there was a fandom around the original three movies until checking out this page, because I'm one of those fic readers that finds a story they like then checks out out everything else the author's written, and none of the authors I checked out ever had anything but XMFC-based stuff (mostly Charles/Erik, but also Alex/Armando or Alex/Hank or the occasional obviously comics-influenced thing about Mystique/Destiny so I didn't get the sense that it was just that the people were Cherik shippers exclusively). But if your experience is different and there were people that were fans of all the X-Men movies, then maybe it'd make more sense to combine the pages instead, bring all the XMFC stuff here? And to prevent the page from getting overly long, maybe moving a lot of the Cherik-specific info to the Cherik page? --PhoenixFalls (talk) 23:33, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
- I'm perfectly fine with that, sorry for the late reply. I like the idea to combine both pages and moving the Cherik stuff to it's own page. But yes that was my experience until XMDOFP. I found an article about the new Deadpool film where they refer to the X-Men Movies as X-Men Cinematic Universe (article here). I was wondering if you had seen anyone else refer to the X-men films like this? It's the first time for me, but I sort of like it. I've only found two websites here and here to refer to XCU. --Harpie (talk) 04:02, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
