Talk:Susan Menke

Both this page and Susan M. redirect to S. Soliste, but "Susan M." is always used over her full name in articles and it looks here like the last name was deliberately omitted. If this is for Identity Protection reasons, then this redirect should be deleted, right? Also, the ST fan Susan Meincke (who is published in Vault of Tomorrow and Amazing Grace) has a similar name, could they be the same person? --sparc 07:58, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Let me do some digging. As far as I am aware the different abbreviations were not done for ID issues - just that we're copying different info from different websites and indexes. Some fans abbreviated the fan's first name...other's they abbreviated the last name. Many used full names. And of course, given that there are many Susans, we have no way of knowing which Susan M. a list may be referring to. --MeeDee 15:18, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Susan Menke and S. Soliste are most likely the same. However, a brief glance shows that some of the Susan M.s are writing in different fandoms/different years, so this will take time to untangle.--MeeDee 15:25, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Various lists and emails and zines have been consulted. We're pretty certain this is not an ID protection issue, just differences in how people have referred to this author. Keep also in mind that when we quote from letterzines various forms of initials are normally used which further confuses matters. So with that being said here are my suggestions/thoughts: 1. Sue/Susan Menke = S. Soliste (confirmed via Flamingo and other emails/letters). 2. We should remove the Susan M redirect as there are (and will be) other Susan M.s 3. We've gone through the existing pages with Susan M. and verified the ones we know belong to Susan Menke and/or S. Soliste. The Susan M on the Blake's 7 zine is most likely not Susan Menke - but we cannot confirm. 4. Nor can we confirm any tie to Susan Meincke who wrote Star Trek poetry as we do not have copies of those zines in our hands. So we leave those names as is and do not link them. Any other thoughts/suggestions? --MeeDee 16:53, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Wow, thanks for all your hard work MeeDee! That sounds good to me, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't an issue as the Pre-1995 Fan Name Use policy tends to cause me a lot of confusion :) --sparc 21:38, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
