Talk:Sparkly
To explain my edit: "Sparkle motion" isn't fannish coinage, it's a Donnie Darko reference. ("Sometimes I doubt your commitment to sparkle motion!") -- Liviapenn 04:38, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I know -- should have made it clear that Cleolinda adapted the term for use in Twilight anit-fandom. It was in the reference link, to her wiki. --lian 10:53, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
"Sparklypoo" - wasn't this in use (in HP fandom, as mentioned) long before Twilight's sparkly vampires?--Mary Crawford 10:31, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, it was. I read the sentence to be referring to the term sparkly itself, rather than sparkly vampires, though it should probably be reworded for clarity. --Kyuuketsukirui 10:42, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- How's that? :-) I'm not sure if the term 'Sparklypoo' *originated* in the comic strip, so I left that open --Mary Crawford 10:52, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- That's great, and thanks for linking to the comic. I haven't read that in years, but it's still hilarious. --Kyuuketsukirui 11:20, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure Piratemonkey did originate "Sparklypoo," yeah. Thanks for tracking the comic down. It's so awesome. :D -- Liviapenn 17:14, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I re-added the sparkle motion phrase, but with proper explanation this time, and added an 'HP totally had the sparkle before TW!" thing. If you disagree, feel free to edit, but I believe that Cleolinda is sufficiently known as one of *the* Twilight anti-fans that her coinage should be included. --lian 11:18, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
IIRC, "sparkly" was a big thing in popslash, too -- a quick google search brings up things like the "sparkly cafe" community, the "sparkly glee 2007" challenge, "sparklyukfans" (which is apparently an lj comm to organize an annual "Camp Sparkle - a popslash get-together in the UK"), etc. I don't know where it originated or specifically how it was used, though -- I just heard the term a lot from popslash fans, going back to around 2003, I think. *g* --Arduinna 17:09, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
- Oh yeah, I remember that-- "Sparkly dancing boys" was common shorthand for the members of NSYNC or BSB and then I think sparkly-everything-else in popslash followed from that. -- Liviapenn 17:14, 11 October 2008 (UTC)
