I plan to come back later and clean it up, add some sources from AO3, and see if I can find any fan opinions on skins plus if/how skins have helped them. GoldenFalls (talk) 08:30, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

I think at some point I saw that AO3 skins were partially prompted by wanting folks in eastern/video game fandoms to feel more comfortable on the site. Maybe reading the references on Server Naming Fail or Yuletide Controversies: "Eastern" vs. "Western" Fandoms? Also, probably this page should have some info about fannish skins on other sites (assuming that happens? I don't know anything about skins) or it should be named just "AO3 Skins"? - Hoopla (talk) 18:41, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Added some info and examples and clarified things a bit. I think I want to move the winamp and efiction examples into the software section and add Yahoo messenger and other software that was reskinned. Maybe move the explanation that themes were sometimes shared on fansites there as well. –GoldenFalls (talk) 07:57, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

Also, I want to work into the page how you can style your profile/cave/home using CSS on a lot of creature collector sites like Wajas, Tygras, felisfire, etc., but I'm not sure it actually fits on this page and whether it counts as fannish?
