Talk:Sam Starbuck

Page Name

Perhaps it varies by fandom, but in my experience Sam doesn't use "Copperbadge" as a pseud, just as his LJ username. He seems to be best known as just "Sam," due to sam_storyteller, his fic journal, and "SamVimes," a pseud he used in the HP and Discworld fandoms and the name of his accounts on FF.net, FictionAlley, and Skyehawke.

I'd personally rename this page Sam Starbuck, which seems to be his primary pseud. He uses it on his fic journal's profile as well as for his original fiction (LJ, Lulu). Thoughts? --sparc 05:34, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

I agree. The other pseuds should redirect to Sam Starbuck. (Is there a disambiguation page for Sams?) --Lorem_Ipsum 17:24, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

I agree as well. The profile on his DW journal mentions the name, Sam Starbuck and most people in conversation there call him Sam. There is a Sam page and I edited his entry on it to link to Sam Starbuck, I put the gardener template on the page requesting a move.--facetofcathy 22:38, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Plagiarism??

I added a small section on his fanfic Transformations and plagiarism. I could only find one mention of his plagiarism online but after looking into his fic and comparing it to my copy of Men at Arms (the novel he stole from) and found many many lifted lines at first glance. This is 20 years old at this point but given his involvement with Cassandra Claire and Laptopgate it rung some alarm bells. I guess I’m just asking if anyone else has any more information on this situation? Or even his original copy of the fic posted to Fanfiction.net? Any help would be appreciate I’m just a little unsure of where to go from here. Thanks in advance! Concerning-aragorn (talk) 02:50, 17 June 2024 (UTC)

I found the Fanfiction.net link, archived a month after the story was published. At that time, the author's note did acknowledge: "Essentially, this is the story of Men At Arms, with a twist. This means that occasionally, the original story slips in. Maybe more than occasionally. But don't think of it as plagiarism; think of it as recycling, or homage." --sparc 03:07, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
sparc Thank you! I will look into that and add it to the page. Concerning-aragorn (talk) 03:13, 17 June 2024 (UTC)
