Does anyone else think listing incest, selfcest, cross-generational, and age difference under the subheading Genres commonly depicted as romance in fandom, uh... really judgemental? I think it implies that we don't think they're actually romance and surely that isn't Fanlore's decision to make if the fans who write them are calling them romantic. Maybe something like Common fandom subgenres or Related genres would be better, and we could include gen, slash, femslash, PWP, etc?
- I'm typically inclined to assume best intentions on the wiki, but I do think that the whole section of "Romance-specific Tropes" could benefit from some reorganization. I didn't interpret the subheading in the way you've written, but I think part of the issue here is the murky distinction between "trope" and "genre." Expanding and reorganizing the page with an eye towards inclusion might ameliorate some of the issues you're picking up on. Personally, I do think it's within the scope of the wiki to note (with citation) that some subgenres or tropes in romance fic are considered squicks/triggers/controversial/problematic by some fans, while others may take no issue, and still others may say that the complicated/fraught dynamics are part of the appeal. But that information should ideally be presented as fannish opinion, not as objective categorical fact. - Fandomgeographies (talk) 14:15, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
