Fans Being Outed?

I'm pretty sure that there's truth to the stories about fans losing jobs, friends, custody, et. by having their fan activities revealed. However, I've done a bit of searching and haven't been able to find any actual evidence of any bad consequences. It would be very useful for Fanlore to collect those, so anyone? If you don't want to update the page, send me links and I'll do it. --msilverstar 21:18, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

As a trope

I just linked to this page from Transphobia in Fandom, which highlights outing as a trope used in transfics. It's also a trope that is viewed negatively by some and has received pushback, but I'm wondering if a section can be added to this page on outing as a trope in fanworks and the discussion surrounding that. Or would it be better placed on its own trope page?--Auntags (talk) 16:33, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
