Perspective from a webcomics fan: the movie's production news drew a LOT of discussion in webcomics circles over the decade of complications; I mean personally i was only paying attention from ~2020 onward but i should see if I can dig up any of that and discuss it on the page. Also SO MUCH discussion comparing the comic and the movie (I even wrote some long meta about it myself -- though mostly in disorganized discord rants to it would be hard to convert to/link on fanlore).
