Related Works

Just reading this page and I happened to wonder why Sins of the Past is the only work listed in the Related Works section and not any of the Tweeners and Afterspecs? Those works all seem to be given equal weight as "offspring" on Forbidden Archive, so is there a reason why only Sins of the Past is listed? --enchantedsleeper (talk) 20:51, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

An additional question: does anyone have a sense of whether these follow-up works count as unauthorised sequels, given that they were written with knowledge of the original's intended ending, but perhaps not with the explicit permission of the authors? Nope, I think my biases are showing! xD I'll add in the other related works!

I don't think these were unauthorized because of some comments I've read. Namely, the comment from "melinda" on this page, stating that she asked to write the final part. I can't help but wonder, who was she asking? I think its very likely early authors got permission from one or both of the original authors. And all the follow-up works were written in the same 95-96 timeframe as MtS. (Looking at awards dates at the forbidden archive, they were all in the 95-95 category) So even if Susie was unavailable, Mick was still around at that time (again, that's just an assumption based on comments)--11:28, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

ETA - I think I remembered why I didn't add links to the related works. The publicly available fics still include non fannish names and email addresses (that are probably now defunct), so a list will have to do. I'm not adding those links, although they are easy to find. I know we can include links like that on Fanlore, but given how VC fandom has changed since 1996, I think it'd be better to leave the links out!--Auntags (talk) 11:38, 12 June 2022 (UTC)

Hey enchantedsleeper, from the FAQ on the spec page here, it looks like none of these works were unauthorized. They actually sound more like collaborative works, with the authors constantly contacting one another --Auntags (talk) 22:54, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
