Talk:Media Rare

I just added an image of issue #1 (which matches page count and content) but the date quoted for this is 1985, which totally doesn't fit date of the series. If it is a reprint, it is unlikely this more advanced cover is a replacement for the more primitive one. One clue: the Highlander character on Data's apron, is that the fellow from the television series, and therefore not possible in 1985? There seem to a be a number of inconsistencies, which isn't that odd in the world of zines, but too many to make sense here. I'm leaning toward the 1985 date being a mistake. --Mrs. Potato Head 23:49, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

The Highlander part of the image is based on a Highlander promo picture and the show first aired in 1992. It can't be older than that. --Doro 09:20, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
On second thought, could it be the cover of issue #2? The fandoms on the cover are Star Trek TNG, Highlander, Beauty and the Beast, Quantum Leap and Alien Nation which fits the contents of issue #2 much better than the contents of issue #1. --Doro 09:37, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
I thought of it being the cover of issue #2, except that the contents listed are clearly issue one. I could see the source of this zine getting the date wrong, but not listing the wrong contents; it's too many leaps. I'm going to tweak the page (based on the 1992 thing) and hopefully more info will come along later. --Mrs. Potato Head 11:43, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
On the other hand, if they get the date so completely wrong, maybe they got the issue number wrong too and combined the cover of issue #2 with the contents of issue #1. It's also possible that there was something called Media Rare in 1985 and they mixed up all their Media Rare info (date, contents, cover) because they thought it was one item. If you look at issue #1, the fandoms depicted there pretty much match the contents. The same is true for the cover of issue #3 which contains: Star Trek TNG, Star Trek DS9, Beauty and the Beast, X-Files, Quantum Leap, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Alien Nation, Wiseguy, and Highlander. --Doro 12:26, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Yes, yes, all true. I'll put a note on the image. It's a neat cover; I hope someone else has it and can clear the mystery up. --Mrs. Potato Head 12:39, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
