Talk:Icon (image)
Should the main article be singular or plural? I've chosen singular but have no idea really.
I went with the disambiguation line at the top instead of a disambig page because I figure that people will mostly be linking to icon as used on journaling sites and whatnot, and it's easier just to have that redirect straight here. But I did want to make the name more specific, because both the Icon conventions have been around longer than the image form, and I wanted to keep things balanced. --Arduinna 19:53, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
Images
This page needs examples of icons really badly. Many, many examples. But since an icon is the whole of the thing, is it ok to reproduce them without permission? And I suppose most people will feel shy about uploading their own. --MegR 16:12, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
- The easiest would be to upload just those icons that have been posted as freely sharable b their makers, rather than use any that have been posted under the exclusive claims model.--RatCreature 16:32, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
new category?
Do we want to create a Category:Icons? It could be a subcategory under Category:Visual Art. In general I think the Visual Art category could be broken out more, but is "Icons" too narrow? How about Category:Graphics, Category:Web Graphics [1], or Category:Graphic Design, covering banners, wallpaper, icons, and macros? This page and all images that are icons would belong in an Icons category, and if there are any icon-sharing LJ communities documented on Fanlore, those could get the category, too.--æþel 23:30, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
split page
The majority of the sections on this page are about LiveJournal icons, which makes the intro extremely confusing and off-topic. I think we should move the LJ content to a separate page: Icon (LiveJournal).
Anyway, I came over to add something about the trend in adding microscopic unreadable text to LJ icons since I just found an example.[2]--aethel (talk) 02:32, 9 November 2016 (UTC)
