"Most popular fandom"
We've gotten multiple edits on this page claiming that Countryhumans is "the most popular fandom on the internet" or similar. I removed that language from the article but I wanted to give people a place to discuss and back up the claim -- if it's justified, it should be in the article! here's where I'm coming from:
- AO3: "Countryhumans" is synned with Geography (Anthropomorphic), which has about 2k works on the archive. Searching for the keyword "Countryhumans" turns up about 850 results. That makes it a medium-small fandom by AO3 standards
- Reddit: r/Countryhumans, the biggest related sub I've found, has about 15k members. Contrast with some other fandom subs -- r/Homestuck has 80k members, r/Polandball has 600k members, and r/gameofthrones has 3 million members, and many other TV-show-based subs have hundreds of thousands of members. Countryhumans is obviously quite a bit smaller than these.
- Ficbook: Countryballs (Badlands) has 624 pages of fic and Personification (Anthromorphic) has 280 pages of fic. In comparison, Harry Potter book series has over 1000 pages of fic (I'm guessing the site software only load a thousand pages, given the round number).
So it seems clear to me that there's many fandom spaces where Countryhumans is not the most popular. I definitely don't know much about Russian fandom. If there's another space where Countryhumans dominates, we should discuss that on the page! But we should be specific, not give the vague and incorrect impression that it's popular everywhere. -- Quaelegit (talk) 08:45, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- I wonder if at this point should be treated as hostile editing. It reminds me of random users that edit the entry of their otp in shipwiki and add things like "canon" or "married". These country humans fans may be really excited about their fandom and show that through exaggerated statements on Fanlore, but it still is inaccurate info. This is not the right place to meme.
